MFT/PCC Practicum

The MFT/PCC practicum program at CAPS is a learning and serving adventure. It is intentionally designed from a whole person, trainee centered approach.

Our primary objective is to nurture Trainees’ growth and development as competent, compassionate, and conscientious therapists.

We welcome Trainees to practice, innovate, and elevate our services to clients and the university community, in collaboration with our diverse and multi-disciplinary team.

Trainees will gain essential and foundational psychotherapeutic skills and competencies, that integrate diversity and inclusion practices through:

  • Observing and shadowing experienced clinicians,
  • Conducting in-person and tele-health individual, couple's, and group counseling sessions
  • Processing recordings of client sessions with skillful clinical supervisors
  • Reflection, cultural humility, and being a lifelong learner

Trainees will receive clinical supervision from skilled clinicians, who will model best practices, informed by professional ethical and legal standards.

In addition, Trainees at CAPS will gain:

  • Effective clinician self-care
  • The ability to utilize a clinical practice management software program
  • Clinical and Case Management skills that are specific to the university counseling center setting
  • Experience providing outreach and psychoeducation to the campus community

We believe that we will also be enriched by Trainees.  The unique and diverse lived experiences, abilities, and perspectives each Trainees bring will grow our effectiveness in service.
