Contemporary Issues Discussion SIG

 - Link to file

The Contemporary Issues Discussion SIG meets, on average, at least once per month, usually via Zoom. Each discussion tends to average 20-25 participants. The day of the week and time for these “pop-up” discussions will vary, ensuring that everyone can attend at least some of the time. We try to schedule them so that the meeting time does not conflict with OLLI classes.

Discussions are facilitated, and all members have an equal opportunity to participate and contribute in a respectful atmosphere.

Topics are usually quite timely. Previous topics include various aspects of current events, politics, religion, education, popular culture, psychology, the media, education, and the impact of technology. We usually incorporate short but relevant YouTube video segments or articles sent to group members beforehand to stimulate more informed discussion.

If you are interested in participating, the first step is to email the group coordinator and facilitator, Len Schreibstein, at Lendebsch@aol.com. You will then be added to the group email list, and at least a week before each discussion will receive an email notice, including the date, time, topic, and the necessary Zoom log-in link. Feel free to also contact Len with questions or for more information.

The Contemporary Issues Discussion Group is jointly sponsored by SCU OLLI and Temple Emanu-El San Jose.
