IDIS 3695. Global Business Perspectives

Through company sites and cultural visits, students learn to appreciate how business operates outside of the United States. Country visits are bracketed by class sessions and pre-work followed by project presentations. Content varies based on the expertise of the faculty and the country visited. Past locations include Germany, France, China, New Zealand, Brazil, and India. (4 units)
Open to MBA students only. Students must have completed 3 full terms of their MBA program and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students are required to fill out an application to be enrolled in this course. This course requires an additional travel fee to be enrolled.  Prerequisite: None.

MSIS 2805. How Engineers, Business people and Lawyers Communicate With Each Other (Starting Winter 2025 known as IDIS 3696)

Students from business, engineering, and law learn to understand each other's perspectives, speak each other's language, and work together effectively in a collaborative environment. Students from different schools will be organized into teams to work together on a simulated project involving a technological matter, such as privacy/security or IP. (2 units)
Prerequisite: None.

IDIS 3797. Curricular Practicum Education

The primary purpose of co-op education is to give international students an opportunity to gain practical knowledge in their field of study. This course is designed to prepare them for such an experience. It consists of a series of lectures on topics that will familiarize them with the Silicon Valley working environment, and will enable them to relate their experiences in the industry to their academic program. Attendance is mandatory. (1 unit)
Open to MBA and MS international students. Prerequisites: Three quarters of full-time course work and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. May only be taken once. 

IDIS 3798. Extended Curricular Practicum Education

Extension of IDIS 3797. (1 unit)
Open to  MBA and MS students. Prerequisite: IDIS 3797 Curricular Practicum Education. May be taken for credit no more than 2 times.

IDIS 3799. Managing Transitions

This is a 2-unit credit course that prepares students for the career transitions that they will encounter once completing Santa Clara University’s MBA program. This highly relevant course concentrates on the skills students require to succeed early on in their careers. The course focuses on true situations where students can gain best approaches to bolster their First 90 days in a new position. The course covers transitions both within a current company as well as transitions to a new company. Students will learn how to work with different generations in the work force and to gain insights into different work styles.  Topics such as how to successfully leverage social media to attain the desired career  and developing a career path are covered. The lessons learned will be applicable to transitions throughout the students’ careers. (2 units)
