Santa Clara University recycled two tons of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) filter waste in 2009. The discarded filters were used by HVAC Systems & Solutions to create energy. Santa Clara's filter waste generated 1200 kWh of clean energy--the equivalent of 22 trees sequestering carbon for 10 years.
