Tips to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Respect, related to waste.

We all have addictive habits. Try to reduce the impact of yours. Love coffee? Instead of constantly buying it at cafes or coffee houses, make it at home. Not only will it save you money, but you will reduce the amount of coffee cups entering the waste stream.

Had a lot of fun this quarter and didn't know what to do with those extra Mardi Gras beads lying around? Over 25 million pounds of plastic are used to make mardi gras beads each year. Don't throw them away, recycle them by donating them or giving them to your local elementary schools that can incorporate them into their play areas. Better yet reuse them next year.

Recycle all your plastic drink bottles and containers. Make sure to give them a quick rinse before you put them in the recycling container so they are can be easily processed when they reach the recycling facility.

Show some respect for your local community this spring break by volunteering some of your time to a local community center or by enhancing the quality of life around you by planting a tree or growing a garden. To find out about more volunteer opportunities, visit the SCU SCCAP website.
