What Can I Do?
Posted on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011
There are many ways in which you can be more sustainable within the work place.
Reduce: Reduce the amount of energy you use by 70 percent simply by setting your computer to sleep mode after 5-10 minutes of inactivity.
Reuse: If you have old business cards there are many creative ways to go about reusing them. You can place them by your phone and use them as note cards to jot down notes. You can cover the business side with wrapping paper, and use them as gift cards to attach to presents. You can use them as book marks, cue cards for presentations, and as backing for photos in scrapbooks.
Recycle: If you recycle your old ink and toner cartridges, you can reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill. Over 375 million cartridges are thrown away each year in the United States-- that's enough to wrap around the world 3 times!
Respect: Respect the planet and the rights of others by making sure that all e-waste gets taken to an e-waste recycling facility. E-waste leaks toxins that are harmful to human health and the health of ecosystems. You can drop off e-waste in many locations around campus. Staples also takes many electrical waste items with a $10 charge for larger items. Be sure to contact your local e-waste drop off center to make sure they accept your type of e-waste product, and more importantly, that they responsibly recycle all electronic waste.
