Anoosheh Heidarzadeh with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department has received a $19,344 award from Texas A&M (funds originated with the National Science Foundation) to support his project "Numerically Stable Large-Scale Coded Distributed Computing".
Major goals of the project are to develop encoding and decoding schemes for distributed computing that improve the numerical stability and adversarial error correction capability. Specifically, we will design and analyze novel sparse coding schemes for distributed matrix-matrix multiplication with improved reliability compared to the state of the art. In addition, we will develop new classes of rateless codes tailored for evaluating a function in a distributed master-worker setting in the presence of stragglers. We will consider both exact computation and approximate computing scenarios.
