Alice Villatoro with the Public Health Department has received a $44,525 award from Columbia University (funds originated with the National Institutes of Health) to support her project "Leveraging Latinx Adolescents, Photovoice, and Longitudinal Data to Disentangle the Bidirectional Effects of Social Media and Mental Health."

Alice Villatoro with the Public Health Department has received a $44,525 award from Columbia University (funds originated with the National Institutes of Health) to support her project "Leveraging Latinx Adolescents, Photovoice, and Longitudinal Data to Disentangle the Bidirectional Effects of Social Media and Mental Health."

The proposal aims are: 1. To examine the association between exposure to social media use and its content on mental health status. 2. To examine the association between exposure to social media use and its content on mediators of mental health status, specifically, mental illness stigma, self-perceptions, and help-seeking. 3. To examine moderators of Aims 1-2 by sociodemographic, peer/family, and mental health factors. 4. To examine the association between mental health status and frequency of exposure to social media and its mental health-related content.
