Santa Clara University is committed to the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). All students, staff, and faculty who conduct research are strongly encouraged to complete the online RCR training through Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) and participate in RCR workshops offered through Santa Clara University's Office of Research Compliance and Integrity. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Research Integrity offers extensive resources regarding RCR and a series of lab management video vignettes.
For NSF proposals submitted on or after July 31, 2023, all faculty and other senior personnel named on the proposal must complete an approved form of RCR training before any funding can be awarded. Postdocs, grad students and undergraduates are also still required to complete RCR training before conducting NSF-supported research. The online training through CITI requires about two hours, and SPO is immediately notified when a person completes the training.

I already have a CITI account:
- Go to the CITI webpage and log in.
- Click on the My Courses tab in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Scroll down the page to Learner Tools for Santa Clara University and select Add a Course.
- Check the Responsible Conduct of Research box.
- Choose the box that best aligns with your role.
- The course will now appear under "My Courses" and you can begin completing the modules.
