Senior year marks the final stretch of your student’s college journey. It’s a time for students to celebrate their achievements, reflect on their growth, and prepare for life beyond SCU. While it's natural for them to feel a mix of excitement and uncertainty, SCU is here to support them as they complete their final year and step into the next chapter of their lives.
Wrapping Up the Academic Journey
enior year is about bringing together everything your student has learned and applying it in meaningful ways. Through capstone projects, research, or advanced coursework, this is their opportunity to showcase the knowledge and skills gained over the past four years. In the midst of the busy schedule of completing academic work and spending time with friends, your student may forget about the resources SCU offers to help them finish strong.
Remind them that faculty advisors and mentors can guide them through final projects and provide support. Opportunities like presenting research at conferences or publishing in SCU’s academic journals can also enhance their experience. Encouraging your students to meet with advisors early in their senior year will ensure they stay on track with graduation requirements and are well-prepared for post-graduate opportunities.
Career Preparation and Professional Growth
This year is pivotal for your student as they plan their next steps, whether entering the workforce, continuing their education, or exploring other opportunities. One of SCU’s most valuable resources is the Career Center, which is dedicated to helping students achieve the promise of higher education: securing meaningful jobs, building social capital, and advancing economic mobility while striving for a more humane, just, and sustainable world.
The Career Center provides access to career coaching, résumé workshops, and job search tools. Each academic year, they host three career fairs and invite numerous employers to connect with students. These events are excellent opportunities for your students to engage with hiring managers, refine their elevator pitches, and practice networking skills.
SCU also offers Bronco Exchange, a platform for alumni to connect, explore various industries, and expand their networks. Encourage your student to take advantage of this resource—Broncos are always eager to help fellow Broncos succeed.
Preparing for Life After SCU
Life beyond college brings a mix of challenges and opportunities as your student transitions into the next phase of life. SCU is committed to equipping them with the tools and connections they need to succeed. Through our partnership with University Credit Union, students gain access to valuable financial literacy resources, including guidance on applying for and managing loans, creating and maintaining budgets, and exploring personal financial options post-graduation.
If your student isn't planning to enter the workforce immediately, that’s perfectly fine. Many students choose to pursue graduate degrees as the next step in their journey. SCU provides resources to support them in this journey, including assistance in finding programs that align with their goals. Whatever path they choose, SCU is dedicated to helping them succeed and make the most of their opportunities.
It doesn't end here.
Senior year represents the culmination of your student’s educational journey at SCU—unless they decide to continue with graduate studies here, of course. Through their hard work, the unwavering support of the SCU community, your encouragement as parents and family members, and the foundation of a values-driven education, your student is well-prepared to take the next step and make a meaningful impact on the world. No matter where their path leads, SCU will always be their home.
