Makeup Artist in Ohio Follows Her Entrepreneurial Dreams, Bringing Transformative Glam to Her Clients for Their Special Moments

Greta Richardson is a self-described “girly girl” from Columbus, Ohio. She was raised by a single father, so she didn’t have much exposure to or experience with makeup while growing up. When she discovered makeup as an adult, she was inspired by the outward and inward transformations makeup could create. In 2020 Greta decided to pursue her passion as a business, founding GlamByGreta Makeup Artistry. Then in 2024, Greta took the Starting a Business free online course from MOBI to learn about entrepreneurship from an academic side. Through the MOBI course, Greta learned new skills to apply to her business.

How it Got Started: “Raised by a single father, I didn’t really see much makeup while growing up,” Greta says, remembering back to her young life. “When I tried eye shadow for the first time, I was astonished by how it changed my face.” Her passion for makeup only grew from there. She started learning all she could about makeup, trying different products, colors, and applications. She watched instructional YouTube videos about makeup, and eventually enrolled in a course to become a certified makeup artist. With her certification and a deep passion for makeup, Greta decided to start her own business.

GlamByGreta Makeup Artistry specializes in soft glam and full glam makeup services, makeup instruction, and skin care recommendations. “Some of my favorite makeovers are for proms and weddings because I get to see both an outer and inner change in my clients. Their makeup looks amazing for the big event, and they also radiate so much confidence and happiness from the inside. It’s very inspiring to be a part of these very special moments.”

How MOBI Helped: In 2024 Greta decided to take the Starting a Business course from MOBI. Like many entrepreneurs, Greta started her business to pursue her passion, and she soon discovered that running her business required knowledge and skills beyond her expertise with makeup. Greta wanted to learn more about entrepreneurship from an academic perspective. She wanted to gain new knowledge to apply to her business and ensure she was making the most of her opportunities.

“The MOBI Starting a Business course helped me in so many ways. I wanted to know more about being a business owner from an education standpoint so I enrolled in this class. As an entrepreneur I felt this class would be highly beneficial for me and my business,” said Greta about her decision to enroll in the My Own Business Institute course. “My favorite lesson was how to structure your business. It helped me decide to form my business as a limited liability company or LLC. I also liked the sessions about ecommerce and home-based businesses.”

What’s Next: In addition to furthering her entrepreneurial education, Greta is also updating her makeup skills by pursuing additional courses in makeup artistry.

When asked if she had any additional thoughts or a quote she would like to share, Greta said, “Yes! Follow your dreams and never give up!”
