Supervisor Dean Preston Stars on Shadowy ‘News’ Website Created by his Political Group

When websites such as San Francisco Independent Journal are created to present an illusion of being an unbiased news source but in fact authored and operated by a political or lobbying entity with the intent to amplify biased content, ethical lines are crossed.

“The boots on the ground sense of journalism only exists if the person has real boots on the ground,” said Subramaniam Vincent, director of the Journalism and Media Ethics program at Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics. “If this site has content by pseudo people that don’t exist, then that’s not journalism—fundamentally.”
