Mayor Breed’s Critics say her Obsession With Loyalty has Gone too far: ‘She Sees Enemies Everywhere’
It’s not unusual for mayors to aggressively court campaign support, nor is it unusual for elected leaders to seek appointees that will help them execute their agenda. But John Pelissero, director of government ethics at Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, said, “The mayor’s agenda should be the one that’s in the best interest of the public, not her personal interest.”
“Removing someone from a commission or not reappointing them because they’re not endorsing your reelection, for example — that’s not an appropriate reason,” he said. “Mayors shouldn’t be removing people from their appointed positions for inappropriate political reasons.”
