Kamau Bell and Hackworth Fellows explore free speech

Last month, Hackworth Fellows Taylor Berry, Anand Purohit, Sarah Tarter, and Maria Lutgarda Glorioso interviewed W. Kamau Bell, SCU's Frank Sinatra Chair in the Performing Arts, for a "Free Speech" panel discussion. The informal and frequently humorous discussion ranged on topics from dealing effectively with family conflict (maybe don't go home for the holidays...?), to current issues making headlines, to the power of comedy to cross digital divides. "Productive conversations require work," Bell commented, and a dedicated place and time. Regarding conflict on college campuses, he commented, at some point you have to accept that a problem may not be resolved, but you need to stand up and take a stand. The Fellows reflected on the experiences on their latest "Power of Our Voices" blog, which they have been contributing to throughout the academic year as their campus ethics project. The video (about one hour) also tells the story.
