Center welcomes Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto
Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto has over 20 years of experience in nonprofit executive management in the Bay Area. Most recently, she was the executive director of West Valley Community Services, and she has worked as a social worker for over thirty years in various capacities. She has extensive experience in multicultural sensitivity issues, poverty prevention, mental health and substance use, and in the development of prevention, intervention, and treatment programs. She has also served as a consultant and trainer in these areas.
She has been an active volunteer and/or board member of several community organizations. She currently is the Vice Chair for the Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits and also serves on their Leadership Team. She has served on the United Way Silicon Valley Board of Directors and has been re-appointed to the Commission on the Status of Women for Santa Clara County. She previously served on the Housing and Community Development Advisory Committee of Santa Clara County and the City of Sunnyvale, Cultural Diversity Advisory Committee.
A long-term, active volunteer at her children’s schools, she has served on the School Site Councils and chairing PSTA committees. She has helped developed several youth organizations within her temple, and is currently an advisor to their high school youth group and a Girl Scout Leader. She is an active Director with the Midori Kai, Inc.
A Senior Fellow with the American Leadership Forum (ALF – Class XXIV), she was recognized as Woman of the Year in 2009 by State Senator Joe Simitian, and was the Asian Law Association Community Impact Honoree in 2013. In 2014, she received the Legacy Award from Sister to Sister/Asian American Recovery Services.
