Conscience and Catholic Health Care, co-edited by Director of Campus Ethics David DeCosse and Rev. Thomas Nairn, just received Honorable Mention from the 2018 Catholic Press Association, in the "Faithful Citizenship/Religious Freedom" category. Published by Orbis Books, the book is drawn from a two-day symposium at Santa Clara University, and provides a timely assessment of the Catholic understanding of conscience and how it relates to day-to-day issues in Catholic health care. The contributors explore a wide range of topics, including end-of-life care, abortion and sterilization, and the role of Catholic ethics, particularly in hospital settings. In related news, DeCosse also recently presented at the 2018 Convention of the Catholic Theological Society of America in Indianapolis, for a Plenary session on: “Faithful Citizenship and the Theology of Conscience: A Reflection on Grace, the World, and the 2020 Election.
