The Ethics Center is pleased to announce a free new teacher professional development series which aims to expand educators’ knowledge of evidence-based practices to foster social, emotional, and character growth using literature. The series will launch on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 4 pm Pacific Time, and will continue with a new webinar every month of the academic year.

The 60-minute webinars will cover eight themes in character development, as listed below:

  • Change
  • Courage
  • Kindness
  • Integrity
  • Justice
  • Leadership
  • Resourcefulness
  • Responsibility

The first webinar will focus on initiating and adapting to change. It will cover issues in adolescent development, resilience, and global citizenship in the 21st  century. Curriculum writers will demonstrate activities from the Character-Based Literacy curriculum, which uses young adult novels as a springboard to conversations about moral values and ethical reasoning. Our guest speaker Rob King, editor-in-chief at the website Thoughtful Learningwill present on the integration of "Write Ahead and All Write" resources for effective writing into the Character-Based Literacy curriculum.

We hope you can join us in one or all of the webinars. If you have a question or suggestion for the webinar series, please contact Character Education Program Manager Kristy Esparza.
