Karina Martin '25, a member of the 2023-24 Environmental Ethics Fellowship team, discussed the ethical failures that led to the Pajaro, CA levee flooding, the impact of the failure on Pajaro residents, and what can be done moving forward to prevent additional harms and protect this community.

Karina Martin ’25 is from Pasadena, CA and is majoring in civil, environmental, and sustainable engineering. She is extremely passionate about the intersection between engineering, ethics, and environmental justice. Outside of class, she enjoys listening to music, spending time in nature, and film photography.
