Sociology Alumni Award for Excellence in Community based Research
In 2016, we awarded our first Sociology Alumni Award for Excellence in Community-based Research. The award description reads, “In honor of our alumni, we award a graduating senior who has done excellent applied sociological research that is useful at the community or organizational level with The Sociology Alumni Award for Excellence in Community-based Research. The research must have taken place as part of a sociology course at Santa Clara University.” The award is judged both on the work of the student on the project and the project’s impact on the community.
Award winner:
Congratulations Caitlin Courshon. Caitlin’s project provided a comprehensive applied report based on the findings of a community assessment survey conducted with residents of the Washington Community in San José. Capstone students helped with data entry of the multi-page survey and Caitlin managed the data entry and cleaning of the data in SPSS.
