60-year Anniversary, Socials and Mentoring
The sociology faculty retreat was held at the gorgeous Testarossa Winery in Los Gatos on 9/19/19 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the department and discuss plans for the upcoming academic year.
One goal was to host a “Sociology Social” on November 15 where faculty and sociology majors, minors and prospective students all gathered to enjoy each other’s company while munching on free food in the Sociology suite on the 3rd Floor of O’Connor.
A second goal was to mentor current and prospective majors regarding sociology and career opportunities. Starting November 7, the sociology department has been hosting informal meetings every Thursday from 1-2 pm in the Sociology Suite to help students over free food. These meetings are helpful in thinking about how to market yourself with a sociology degree (the research indicates that sociology graduates are successful in getting a variety of jobs with advancement opportunities). Please direct any questions to Dr. Laura Nichols or Dr. Di Di.
The final event of the winter quarter was the department’s Holiday Party held on December 14. Faculty and students from different departments on campus gathered in the Sociology Suite to merrymake, celebrating the end of the year accomplishments and the holiday season over food and drink.
