Ph.D. 2019, Sociology, Rice University
Di Di’s work explores the social impact of powerful meaning-making systems, including religion, science, and technology, within a global context. Methodologically, she uses surveys and statistical analysis to examine the broad picture, relying on personal interviews and ethnographic observations to identify specific cultural mechanisms.
Her recent project examines how tech workers in China and the United States relate to religion and to what extent their relationships influence their views on tech ethics. She is currently collecting data for a new project that analyzes the experiences and perceptions of atheist, religious, and spiritual social media influencers on YouTube and TikTok.
At Santa Clara University, she teaches Survey Research and Statistical Analysis, Spirituality in Diversified Societies, Diversity in Organizations and Societies, Race and Inequality, among others. She’s passionate about connecting her research with teaching and utilizing different methodologies to address contextualized sociological research questions.
