In the Cognition and Student Learning (CASL) lab, our mission is to explore and enhance self-regulated learning for learners of all backgrounds. We focus on three key areas: (1) identifying the cognitive mechanisms behind effective learning techniques, (2) developing innovative strategies to boost these processes, and (3) describing how these strategies can be implemented in diverse educational settings.
To achieve our goals, we employ a range of methodologies, including laboratory experiments, classroom studies, and large-scale data analyses. This multifaceted approach allows us to gain a comprehensive understanding of learning dynamics across various contexts.
We seek to answer important questions, such as:
- What are the most effective learning strategies, and what makes them successful?
- What factors influence student study habits?
- How can we encourage the adoption of effective learning strategies through teaching and experience?
Research assistants play a vital role in our studies, with opportunities available at various levels based on interest and experience. If you are interested in joining the lab or would like to learn more, please contact Dr. Rivers or complete this application.
