Greetings from the SCU Accounting Department!
Despite a brief period of online instruction in Winter 2022 due to the spread of Omicron, the Broncos returned fully to campus and took classes in person during AY 2021-2022. It has been so exhilarating to welcome everyone back and resume our on-campus events and activities.

The Accounting Department created the new Accounting Leadership Series for the 2022-2023 academic year to engage all business students. The Accounting Department continues to host research workshops as part of our commitment to support faculty research. We invite nationally and internationally recognized scholars to present their research projects at Santa Clara University. These workshops provide opportunities for SCU faculty to interact with leading-edge scholars in the field and to present their own early-stage research to solicit valuable feedback. Read more >>
The Accounting Department offers a seminar series in the Winter Quarter for students who are interested in developing a broader understanding of accounting-related business issues. These seminars introduce students to current issues in accounting that may not be included in the regular curriculum. Read more >>

On November 28, 2022, Officers Andrew Amerio and Noah Chak from the Santa Clara University Accounting Association had the opportunity to interview SCU’s newly inaugurated President, Julie Sullivan. Andrew and Noah were able to learn more about President Sullivan’s accounting experience, her overall view of the future of accounting, and her perspective on what makes a great leader. The Leavey School of Business is celebrating its 100th year as an official school providing business education at Santa Clara University. Founded in 1923, the school has evolved and grown in size and reputation over the last century. Read more >>

The Accounting Department hosted the 22nd annual Accounting Information Night on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. The event started with a panel discussion, co-moderated by Lewis Chew (former CFO, Dolby) and Ryan Chew (Senior Financial Analyst, Intuitive Surgical), followed by two breakroom sessions and open Q&A. The Accounting Department hosted the annual Sophomore Accounting/A&IS Career Fair on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 6:00-8:00PM virtually via Zoom. Over 50 students registered to meet with fifteen firms. Read more >>

The SCU Accounting Association (SCUAA) hosted a very well attended 41st annual Meet-the-Firms outside in St. Ignatius Lawn on September 27, 2022. Over 120 students attended to converse with 27 professional accounting and consultancy firms. Read more >>

On November 2, 2022, over 70 students attended the sixth annual Corporate Accounting Career Panel Discussion on campus in Benson Center Mission Room. The Accounting Department and Accounting Association had the honor of hosting Mr. Tony Menendez, best known as the "Accountant Who Beat Halliburton" for a campus tour and presentation on "What it takes to Do the Right Thing in Corporate America." Read more >>

The Accounting Department recognized 25 students for their academic achievement by awarding 23 scholarships and honoring four students with academic awards. The scholarships and awards are made possible by generous contributions and grants from accounting organizations, alumni, faculty, public accounting firms, and Silicon Valley companies. Read more >>

Each year the Silicon Valley Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI) selects and awards scholarships to approximately a dozen outstanding students in Finance and Accounting from Bay Area universities. This year, FEI awarded a scholarship to our Accounting major, Ava Silva. Read more >>

In memory of Justin, the Justin Ebner Endowed Accounting Scholarship has been established to provide assistance for accounting majors who show a love of accounting and work to help and inspire others. Read more >>

Isabelle He, Accounting and Information Systems class of 2023, was selected as a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) scholar and received a $10,000 scholarship. The PCAOB Scholarship is awarded through a nomination submitted by the Accounting Department. Read more >>

Accounting Advisory Board
For the 2021-2022 academic year, the SCU Accounting Advisory Board convened in October 2021, February 2022 and May 2022. The Advisory Board discussed possible curriculum revisions to better prepare our students for a career with enhanced skills on data analytics and project management. Read more >>

Accounting Association News
The SCUAA is honored to recognize Siqi Li as the 2021-2022 Professor of the Year. Professor Siqi Li, Ph.D., ACUE, joined the Accounting Department at Santa Clara in 2008 after earning her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, and has grown to be a favorite accounting professor of many seniors. Professor Li fosters an environment where students are not afraid to ask questions nor afraid to attempt to answer questions. Siqi Li’s passion for teaching accounting is evident and this has led students to look forward to her class. Read more >> |
This year the Accounting Association successfully hosted an in person Sophomore Accounting\A&IS Career Fair in the spring, a Meet the Firms event in the fall, and quarterly SCUAA socials. In addition, the team created an SCUAA informational video outlining their charter and, under the leadership of President Bethany Candler, created a bi-monthly SCUAA newsletter. The team, consisting of five senior officers and five junior officers, continues to plan a variety of events to prepare accounting majors for professional success. Read more >> |

The Certificate of Advanced Accounting Proficiency (CAAP) program continues to be one of the most time efficient and affordable accounting programs in the country. Our program graduated another group of 22 talented students this year. Many of the students attained jobs through CAAP connections and through recruiting events such as the Meet the Firms event (hosted by the SCU Accounting Association) in the fall CAAP Career Fair.
