Joseph Walling, PsyD, received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium. He completed a year-long internship at SCU CAPS (2019-2020), providing psychological services to a diverse population of Broncos, and has continued in his role as a therapist here at CAPS since then. He previously trained at the Palo Alto VA, San Jose Job Corps, San Jose VA and Menlo College. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of California Berkeley, with highest honors for his research in personality and social psychology. His personal interest are in addressing issues related to life changes, trauma, anxiety, depression, romantic relationships, identity, multiculturalism and intersectionality, and understanding and overcoming one's difficult family and personal history. Fundamentally a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy practitioner, he integrates aspects of other theoretical approaches (Time Limited Psychodynamic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) to meet the specific needs of each client. Having a strong connection to his own Native American Osage roots, he understands that each client brings a unique constellation of cultural, contextual, and personal characteristics that must be considered in treatment and he strives to remain open, flexible and creative in his thinking when incorporating them into his integrative approach to psychotherapy.
