Clarise Ballesteros is a clinical social worker. Her educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, minor in Theatre, from Davidson College and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania with the Penn Aging Certificate. Clarise's professional background includes managing the Yale Infant Cognition Center, therapy with children & families in community/school settings, and working with underdocumented/refugee families. Clarise's past research includes ethnic self-identification, infant cognitive development, LGBTQ+ affirming care, and the development of racial identity. Clarise utilizes her research experience to work with students to find the most affirming and effective ways of meeting their personal goals. Clarise has an integrative approach to therapy, where each challenge is looked at through a collaborative, creative, and culturally curious lens. She is interested in working with all students including those navigating identity formation, combating minority stress, improving interpersonal skills, building resilience to stress/anxiety, and processing grief. She has experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, grief work, and group therapy. Past clients have described sessions with Clarise as having a number one fan who will always support you, meet you where you're at in your journey, and challenge you to meet your therapeutic goals - with laughter along the way. Clarise runs the SCQ @ SCU therapy group for LGBTQ+ students.
