Great Theatre Just Around the Corner
| Come experience the re-dawning of the Age of Aquarius on stage at the Louis B. Mayer Theatre, May 30–June 1 and June 4–7, when Santa Clara University stages the irreverent rock musical “Hair!” Intended for mature audiences, the show explores the harsh societal realities of the draft, racism, and social conformity amid the now-classic tunes of “Aquarius” and the title song, “Hair.” If you have little ones in tow (ages 8 and older), take advantage of the Children’s Theater production of “¡Bocón!” on April 5. Just $3 buys a seat to the humorous, mystical, song- filled story of 12-year-old Miguel, who loses his voice while fleeing a repressive regime in Central America and traveling north to the City of Angels. Or travel back in time to the summer of ’42 to see Neil Simon’s “Lost in Yonkers.” Playing May 9–11 and May 14–17, the Pulitzer Prize– winning play tells the humorous yet poignant tale of the intentional—and unintentional—lessons learned by brothers Jay and Arty as they navigate their new life in Yonkers amid wacky relatives after their mother’s death. “People often don’t realize how many events take place at the Center of Performing Arts,” says Lisa Rademacher, director of the Center. “There is so much talent and variety here at Santa Clara University. We are one of the most economical and high quality series in the area, perfect for anyone, but especially for people who have families and want to expose their children to the arts, people who are on a budget, or people who just like to do a lot of different things. We would love for more people to take advantage of our programming.” For more highlights of the CPA’s remaining season, or for details about locales, tickets, and times, visit www.scu.edu/cpa or call 554-4015. |
