New Graduate-level Rankings Showcase Santa Clara University’s Strengths
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 17, 2020—Santa Clara University’s graduate-level programs in business and law made a strong showing in the 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings.
More than 15 of the graduate-level programs offered by the Silicon Valley-based Jesuit, Catholic University were rated highly. More than half of those programs increased in rankings over last year’s numbers, while the others held steady with commensurate performance.
“We are proud of our graduate programs across the board,” said Santa Clara University Provost Lisa Kloppenberg. “These rankings speak to the continuous efforts of our faculty to develop and enhance curricula that are dynamic and relevant to our position as an institution of higher learning in the heart of Silicon Valley.”
Business
The evening Master of Business Administration at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business (LSB) ranked in the top ten percent for part-time programs—No. 25 of 277 schools profiled—and the fourth highest in California.
LSB’s Executive MBA rose two spots to No. 11, beating out similar programs at the University of Southern California, Georgetown University, and Yale University, among others.
Graduate offerings in entrepreneurship also experienced gains, moving up four to No. 20. Finance saw the largest leap, jumping six placess and capturing the No. 10 spot—ranking higher than the University of California, Los Angeles; Duke University; and Yale University.

Law
Santa Clara Law’s full-time program ranking held steady, down three spots at No. 107, while the part-time program saw a slight jump, up three spots to No. 37 of 141 schools.
Santa Clara Law’s robust program in intellectual property continues to excel, earning a No. 4 ranking in the nation. The program’s performance in the top three percent nationwide speaks to the strong curriculum and ample opportunity for experiential learning in fields like patent, privacy, and entrepreneurial law.
SCU’s program in international law also held steady at No. 40, while offerings in dispute resolution, environmental law, and legal writing increased. Legal writing saw the highest gain, jumping 42 spots to No. 44, followed by dispute resolution, which gained 21 spots and ranked No. 44. Environmental law also moved up, coming in at No. 55 out of 180 schools.

Engineering
Graduate-level programs at SCU’s School of Engineering also performed well, with an overall ranking of 133 out of more than 200 schools nationwide. The most notable change was to the graduate program in electrical engineering, which gained 19 spots, moving to No. 129 of 185 schools.
