Purpose:

This is a full-time position, currently funded by an 18-month grant. Responsibilities of the position are to assist attorneys in work performed to meet the objectives of the Program, including legal research, preparing correspondence, summarizing legal documents, and may include travel to interview California inmates located in California prisons.

Full time position, 18 month appointment, reappointment subject to limits of funding.

II. California DNA Post Conviction Assistance Program

This program is funded by the NIJ Postconviction DNA Testing Assistance Program. It will systematically identify and review the California cases that are the subject of the program grant, search for testable DNA evidence, and in appropriate cases, seek testing of that evidence.

III. Essential Functions

  1. Perform secretarial and administrative functions.
  2. Analyze and review documents as required by staff attorneys.
  3. Communicate, correspond, and interact with clients and outside entities.
  4. Organize, maintain, and manage electronic and paper case files.

IV. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong written and oral communication, well-organized, and management skills in collecting and reviewing legal documents. Experience with database management software.

V. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one year of paralegal experience.
