Udall Scholar: Meghan Mooney, April 2008
April 11, 2008: The University Honors Program is proud to announce that junior Meghan Mooney (Anthropology major, Biology minor) has been selected as one of the 80 Udall Scholars by the Morris K. Udall Foundation, for academic year 2008-09. Meghan, who applied in the category of commitment to a career related to the environment, worked on communications for the Solar Decathlon, the competition in which Santa Clara placed third in 2007-08. She will apply the scholarship toward her studies in the 2008-09 academic year. (Information about this award is available at http://www.udall.gov/udall.asp?link=200.)
Update from the 2007-08 Oxford Scholar, February 2008
Nick Obradovich, a junior Economics and Environmental Studies major, is the current University Honors Program's Oxford Scholar, an honor that is permitting him to study at Oxford University for the entire 07-08 academic year through the generous sponsorship of Santa Clara University's Honors Program. Nick wrote me in response to a query: "As an update, I received the Mansfield Visiting Student Prize for top academic performance last term, which is quite nice (50 pounds!). I also competed against Cambridge in a track meet last weekend. I won the discus, came second in the 60mH, third in the high jump, and fourth in the 60m sprint (and last in the javelin :-). It was enjoyable to be part of an athletic team again and to compete at a high level."
So our stellar SCU student is representing both the University and the USA quite nicely in the UK, it appears.
