The safety of our campus community is always our primary concern.
If a natural disaster, or other unforeseen emergency occurs, the campus community may need to be self-sufficient for a short period of time. With that in mind, campus community members should have an emergency supply kit on hand to meet their personal needs.
Below is a listed of recommended inventory items for an emergency kit. Note, this list is only a suggestion. You may add additonal inventory depending upon your needs on, or off campus.
Recommended Items to Include in a Basic Emergency Supply Kit:
- Large backpack to hold your supplies
- Battery-powered or hand crank radio or a NOAA Weather Radio with extra batteries
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Dust masks to help filter contaminated air and duct tape to shelter-in-place
- Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
- Sturdy hiking boots or other shoes
- Extra clothes, including rain gear
- Emergency phone numbers for your family and friends
- Packaged/non-perishable snacks/food
- Reusable water bottle
Additional Items to Consider Adding to your Emergency Supply Kit:
- Digital or hardcopy of your medical insurance card
- Prescription medications and glasses
- Sleeping bag or warm/emergency blanket
- Personal hygiene items
- Feminine supplies
- Emergency reference material such as a first aid book or information from www.ready.gov
- Paper and pencil
- Portable backup battery/power bank for mobile devices
- Books, cards, non-electric games, puzzles or other activities to pass the time
