In his role as the Senior Director of Admissions and Recruitment, School of Education and Counseling Psychology here at Santa Clara University, Fred continues to champion student success and serve as a mentor and advocate for those seeking to further their education. Beyond his contributions to higher education, Fred is a dedicated and passionate advocate for the Gilroy community. Over nearly two decades, he has played a pivotal role in various public positions, leaving an indelible mark on community betterment.

Fred's public service journey began in 2002 when he served as a Trustee on the San Jose/Evergreen Valley College District Board. From the outset, his dedication to education and student well-being was evident. Subsequently, he served as a Trustee for the Gilroy Unified School District Board from 2008 to 2016, further solidifying his reputation as a champion for education and community improvement.

Since 2016, Fred has continued his public service as a Gilroy City Councilmember, passionately representing and working to enhance the city he holds dear. His leadership within the City Council has significantly shaped Gilroy's development and well-being.

Fred's academic journey is characterized by his unwavering pursuit of knowledge and a profound commitment to helping others achieve their educational goals. He earned a Master's Degree in Counseling - Education at San Jose State University, a testament to his dedication to education and the betterment of students. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Saint Mary's College.

In 2014, Fred was honored with the Signum Fidei Alumni of the Year award from Saint Mary's College, recognizing his outstanding contributions and dedication to the college and the community.

With over 25 years of experience in Admissions and Recruitment within higher education, Fred has been a driving force in expanding access to quality education. In his current role at Santa Clara University, he remains dedicated to making higher education accessible to all, with a particular focus on students of color and those from underrepresented backgrounds.

Fred's personal journey as the first in his family to attend college and graduate with a master's degree has ignited his passion for ensuring that all students have the opportunity to achieve their educational aspirations.

Beyond his roles in education and public service, Fred is a tireless advocate for his community. His active involvement in various local and national committees demonstrates his commitment to making Gilroy a more inclusive and welcoming place for all residents. Notable achievements include championing the establishment of Cesar Chavez Day as a city holiday and introducing the Pride Flag to Gilroy's historical landscape.

Fred's commitment to community well-being extends beyond policy and advocacy. He gives back to the community through initiatives such as an annual Christmas Gift Giveaway for families in need and a Salsa Tasting Competition, which raises funds for local first responders in Gilroy.

Over the years, Fred has been recognized for his advocacy and community leadership. He played a pivotal role in raising funds for the victims of the tragic Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting and was instrumental in creating the "GilroyStrong" movement, symbolizing community resilience and unity.
