Dear Santa Clara University Undergraduate Students,
As we look forward to the start of the new academic year, I write to you today to provide important follow-up information to Acting President Lisa Kloppenberg’s July 27 announcement that vaccination will be required for everyone—even if current FDA approvals for the currently available vaccines have not changed from “emergency use” to “full” status.
Students must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or be granted a medical exemption no later than September 1. Upon completion of the vaccination process, students must upload a copy of their vaccination card via the SCU Portal on their phone or computer, and take the following steps:
- Click on Cowell Center | My Student Health Portal.
- Authenticate your login by entering your date of birth.
- Once inside your chart, click on the "COVID Upload" tab and upload a copy of your COVID vaccination record and complete the required information.
- If you do not see the "COVID Upload" tab, scroll down to the bottom of the titles on the left and upload your COVID vaccination record under the "Immunization Upload" tab and complete the required information.
Students who have previously uploaded their vaccination status via Vax Verify or the Cowell Center | My Student Health Portal need not do so again.
If you are uncertain whether your COVID information has been received, please go into your Cowell Center record to see if your data is present. If you don’t see it under the Immunization tab, please go to the Immunization Upload tab to make sure it is there. Please allow some time for the system to transfer the data from the Immunization Upload tab or the Vax Verity databank into your permanent immunization record.
Students may request a medical immunization exemption by having their doctor complete the Medical Immunization Exemption Request Form. The completed form should be uploaded to the MySCU Portal using the steps outlined above. More information is available on the Cowell website. Students who have received a COVID-19 vaccination exemption will be required to wear a face covering indoors and participate in weekly COVID-19 testing, among other possible protocols.
Students who do not register a COVID-19 vaccination or are granted a medical immunization exemption by September 1 or who are not actively in the middle of the vaccination process will be prohibited from moving in and/or attending classes.

Thank you for doing your part to bring us all back together safely. We look forward to seeing you and having our community back on campus again.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Rosenberger
