Twelfth Night

A stylized man and woman in silhouette against a fantasy moon with text

By William Shakespeare

Director: Jeffrey Bracco

Louis B. Mayer Theatre

November 1-10, 2024

“What country, friend is this?” asks the cross-dressing Viola as she enters Illyria, a 1970’s nightclub where colorful patrons shatter social norms nightly. Bursting onto the scene as her male alter-ego “Cesario”, Viola falls head over heels for Orsino, the mercurial club owner who lives by the mantra “If music be the food of love, play on!” Unfortunately, Orsino only has eyes for the unimpressed Olivia. Meanwhile, Olivia finds herself drawn to the mysterious Cesario, while her servant Malvolio is tricked into thinking Olivia is madly in love with him. Unrequited passions, the search for identity, and power of disruption collide in Shakespeare’s most progressive comedy.
