Kimberly Mohne Hill Recognized by the College of Arts and Sciences
Professor Joseph Bayma, S.J., Scholarship Award
In recognition of having established among colleagues and students a well-deserved reputation for productive, meaningful, and rigorous scholarly or creative work, and for having demonstrated the ability to motivate other scholars or artists, teachers and learners.
Known internationally as the go-to dialect and vocal coach for innovative stage productions, Kimberly Mohne Hill initially trained as an actor at the prestigious American Conservatory Theatre. Since then, Kim has broadened her impressive career path to encompass an impressive trifecta of acting, directing, and vocal coaching. She has worked with top-rated Bay Area theatre companies such as ACT, Berkeley Rep, and Theatre Works, all of which have won Tony Awards for their artistic excellence and are nationally recognized. Kim was assistant Director for the world premier production of “A Thousand Splendid Suns” (written by Khaled Hosseini, “Kite Runner” author and 1988 SCU alum) at the ACT in San Francisco. She went on to be the Assistant Director and youth Director for the two key youth roles for “A Thousand Splendid Suns” at Theatre: Calgary. Of course, Kim was selected to direct the young actors, because in addition to her many theatre productions, Kim has written four books on dialect for youths. When Kim first joined Santa Clara, recent dialect and voice coaching projects included Cabaret and The Yoga Play at the SF Playhouse. Kim continues to hone her skills through participation in international master workshops.
Described by a colleague as having “a heart the size of Texas,” Kim generously shared her vocal coaching expertise with all of us through her pandemic related workshops on how to project while wearing a mask. She has also offered storytelling workshops to exonerees and family members through the Northern California Innocence Project, housed in the Law School. Our students benefit from her directing in onsite SCU productions as well as through courses like “Acting for Non-Majors” and “Improv for Engineers.”
Her impressive and generous contributions to the field of performing arts make Kimberly Mohne-Hill a most deserving recipient of the 2022 Professor Joseph Bayma, S.J., Award.
