A big way to promote reuse is to donate items that are in still in good condition, to be used by someone else. Whether you're doing spring cleaning or planning a move in your office or home, we have the checklist and resources for you!
Planning a Move or Clean Out?
Guidelines for departments preparing to do a move or a large clean out
- Boxes will be charged to your department or to the project, depending on the nature of the project.
- At the end of the project: please return boxes to Facilities when possible.
If your project is managed by Projects & Planning, contact your Project Manager to order.
If your project is self-managed, contact Facilities-CSC@scu.edu.
- Wheeled bins (like curbside containers) are for all paper, plastic, glass, and metal.
- These recycling bins are free of charge.
If your project is managed by Projects & Planning, contact your Project Manager to order. Contact Facilities-CSC@scu.edu when these are full and need to be removed/replaced.
If your project is self-managed, contact facilities-csc@scu.edu to order, and when these are full and need to be removed/replaced.
- Request a large locked container if you have lots of confidential materials.
- Standard Confidential Shredding for large purges costs $5/box
- Locked gray wheeled bins (similar to curbside containers) are $15/bin (hold approx. 12 boxes worth). These are limited in availability.
- Please be sure ONLY confidential documents are put in these gray locked bins. **Each department is charged for this service**
If your project is managed by Projects & Planning, contact your Project Manager to order. Contact Facilities-CSC@scu.edu when these are full and need to be replaced.
If your project is self-managed, contact Facilities-CSC@scu.edu to order, and when these are full and need to be replaced.
- If your department has a lot of reusable items, use this Do-It-Yourself label kit to collect items that can be donated to local non-profits.
- Order moving boxes, print labels, set them up in a designated area, and let your department know what items to drop off.
- Contact the non-profits on the Zero Waste Zones list when you are ready to deliver/schedule a pick-up.
- Try to avoid ordering bulk landfill bins
If your project is managed by Projects & Planning, follow the guides on the main Waste page.
If your project is self-managed, see below for detailed information.
Zero Waste Zones makes it easy to divert and donate reusable goods during office clean-outs and moves. The program helps employees reduce landfill waste and increase employee awareness of SCU’s standard waste diversion practices. Employees are encouraged to sort their office clutter/waste into several categories, including reusable office supplies, functioning electronics, and promotional items to be donated/reused. Suggested donation recipients are listed below in each reusables category.
Designated recycling areas such as mixed recycling and electronic waste should also be available concurrently. Please contact Facilities to set up bulk recycling collection bins for mixed recycling and electronic waste.
