What is your project about? My project aims to address food waste and food insecurity through transforming societies habits at a local scale. With the prioritization of our environment, and the appreciation of all its benefits, we can create a more plant-centric future, thus preserving nature and ultimately the survival of our planet.
How will this fellowship support you in your future scholarship/career goals? The SVP fellowship provides me with the opportunity to hit the ground running with this unique opportunity for applied research in the sustainability field. I am excited to combine my career aspirations with a professional working experience that can best set me up for success in my environmental justice journey.
What extra/co-curricular activities are you involved in on campus? I am the co-president of SCU’s Plant Futures chapter, working to bridge the gap between ENVS undergraduate students and professionals in the work field. I also perform in many of SCU’s annual dance showcases. Additionally, I will spend my final year at SCU as a lab research assistant in Chris Bacon’s Agroecology, Climate Resilience and Food Justice lab.
Other passions, hobbies, fun facts, or anything else you want to share: My passions include anything outdoors with the opportunity to get my hands dirty. I specifically enjoy working to make my own food loop entirely circular through backyard composting and gardening. Additionally, I love kids and spend my time as a volunteer at San Jose Day Nursery caring for the infants or jumping on the trampoline with my next-door neighbors (who, in my eyes, are basically my little siblings). If I'm not surrounded by nature, you can find me in the dance studio, jumping at any chance to perform on stage!
