What is your project about? The Sustainable Food Systems Fellowship provides me with the opportunity to closely analyze the environmental and social impacts of Santa Clara's food system. Izzy and I will be collaborating with SCU’s dining services and The Real Food Challenge to identify specific opportunities for improvement within SCU’s food system including expanding our partnership with local food suppliers.
How will this fellowship support you in your future scholarship/career goals? This fellowship will help me pursue a career related to sustainable food systems by exposing me to the practical applications of implementing sustainable programs. The research and data analysis skills I will gain from this fellowship will be extremely valuable and applicable across a multitude of environmental fields.
What extra/co-curricular activities are you involved in on campus? I am the Sustainability and Nutrition Coordinator for Into the Wild, a chartered student organization that focuses on providing SCU students with opportunities to get off campus and explore California's wilderness. I am also the co-founder of Plant Futures Initiative, a national organization that aims to bridge the gap between students and the professional world of sustainable food systems.
Other passions, hobbies, fun facts, or anything else you want to share? I love everything about the outdoors and am very into hiking and just about anything to do with the ocean. I’m a huge scuba diver and this is what sparked my passion for sustainability and especially marine conservation. Some of my other hobbies include running, surfing, cooking, and I’m a huge foodie!
