Student Assistant - Design & Marketing Sustainability Coordinator
Job Description
The Student Sustainability Coordinator for Design & Marketing will oversee the Center for Sustainability's brand through digital content creation, graphic design, video editing, and marketing. This student will focus on building and maintaining our library archive of photos and video footage and producing digital content for ongoing programs and annual campaigns like Day of Giving.
A key responsibility of this role will be maintaining the brand identity of the Center for Sustainability, the Forge Garden, and Bucky’s Closet. The coordinator will develop and implement marketing campaigns to raise awareness, increase donations, and educate the SCU community about sustainability topics, including sustainable food systems, thrifting, etc. As Bucky’s Closet marketing is a component of this role, the coordinator will work some of their hours at the thrift store to assist with general operations, such as screening donations, maintaining store aesthetics, checking out customers, etc.
Upon completion of this position, students should expect to include the following highlights on their resumes:
- Created engaging design content tailored to a variety of audiences while maintaining a consistent brand style
- Developed video content for fundraising and social media.
- Designed educational campaigns about the harmful social and environmental effects of fast fashion.
- Qualifications specific to this position:
- Passion for graphic design and creativity
- Attention to inclusivity and accessibility in communications
- Experience with / proficiency in design tools (Canva, iMovie, Adobe Suite) and social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.)
Opportunity for leadership development and self-directed experiences that prepare students for early-career jobs and improve their graduate admission prospects. Each Fellowship concludes with a culminating experience (e.g. paper, presentation, event, etc.) to share results and learnings.
Types of Fellowships
- Silicon Valley Power Sustainable Futures (3 Fellows, academic year term)
- Food Systems (2 Fellows, majority of research conducted on-campus during the summer)
Duration: 1 academic year with supervision and mentorship throughout the term

Opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in sustainable food systems at The Forge Garden, SCU's 1/2-acre organic educational garden.
Apprentices support Forge Garden programs including food production, the Friday Farm Stand, Nourish Nights, workday volunteer hours, Glean Team, weekend workshops, campus collaborative events, and Center for Sustainability programming. Read the full position description.
