Hello Broncos! We hope that this newsletter finds you well. We have 22 competitive Club Sport teams at SCU that compete locally, regionally, and nationally against other universities. Each month during the academic year, we ask them to report what they have been up to, and those that submit information will be sent out in this monthly e-mail. Not every Club Sport will report each month.
We wish all the best of luck with Finals and projects! Enjoy the well deserved Winter Break ahead and happy holidays to all!

This past month SCU Sailing competed at UC Santa Barbara the Fall Pacific Coast Championship Regatta placing 9th over a fleet of 29 boats from almost every college along the Pacific Coast. This regatta marks the end of our fall season boasting impressive stats such as an average of 8th place, over 1000 miles traveled and 9 first time sailors confidently securing their home on the team. Up next for the winter and Spring are regattas in Morro Bay, Santa Cruz, Long Beach and San Francisco culminating with conference championships at UC Berkeley.

SHOTOKAN KARATE
Our club has worked hard this quarter, preparing our kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) for our first tournament February 2, 2025 in Yuba City! We’ve also been looking ahead to belt testing in the spring–really honing our basic techniques before we jump into some more advanced forms next quarter. Our end-of-the-quarter party was last Saturday; we were sad to say goodbye to team members leaving for study abroad, but we look forward to welcoming back those returning next quarter! We hope you’re all able to kick back and have a wonderful winter break Broncos!

SWIM TEAM

This past quarter we have had three swim meets. We had an intrasquad to start off the year, a meet with UC Berkeley, and the Western Regionals in San Diego. At regionals we competed against other university club swim teams. Will Tu placed 3rd overall in the 50 and 100 fly, and in the 100 free Daniel Gustin placed 2nd overall. With the winter quarter coming up we currently have 6 national qualifiers, and are working hard to reach more qualifying times. In the winter we are excited and putting in the work for two big meets with Stanford and UCLA. If you have any questions or are interested in joining the club swim team please email our first year representatives, kbush@scu.edu and akerobyan@scu.edu.

TRIATHLON
Triathlon’s season has stayed strong the past month with the athletes competing in UC Santa Barbara’s Kendra’s Race. Since there are no scheduled races until January 25, 2025, the team will build a strong aerobic base over winter break so when we all come back next year they’ll be fit and ready to go. From there, they’ll compete at UC San Diego, Stanford, Cal Poly SLO, then Miami for Nationals!

On December 6 and 7, the team wrapped up 2024 with two important in-conference matchups against the University of Santa Cruz.
After returning from winter break, the team looks forward to an outdoor tournament in Los Alamos, NM, on MLK weekend. Next up we have two rivalry games against San Jose State on January 31 and February 1, 2025. Then finally and most importantly, the WCHC Regional Playoffs in Santa Clarita on February 7, 2025.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Preseason has wrapped up, and Santa Clara’s Women's Lacrosse cannot wait to get back to work in a few weeks. We are excited to stay at home on the newly turfed Bellomy field for the majority of the season, where we will host UC Berkeley (1/25), UC Davis (2/22), and San Diego State (3/9). In February, we are heading south to compete in the Santa Barbara Shootout tournament, where we will face off against UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, and the University of Arizona. With the season ahead, we have our sights set on Nationals in the spring. This team has been putting in the effort, so stay tuned and come support us – it is going to be an incredible season!

WOMEN'S ULTIMATE
The Women’s Ultimate team has participated in three tournaments this quarter, and we cannot wait for more to come in the new year! Two weekends ago we had the opportunity to play six games at UC Santa Cruz and had an absolute blast playing teams including Stanford and UC Berkeley. Although we are headed on break soon, RAGE is coming back to second term with a bang right away, as we will be traveling to UC Santa Barbara for their tournament on January 11 and 12, 2025. We also look forward to planning and hosting our home tournament in February- lots of exciting things coming winter quarter for RAGE!
WOMEN'S CLUB VOLLEYBALL
Santa Clara Women’s Club Volleyball is Back! The team kicked off the year with an impressive performance at the Cal Classic preseason tournament in Berkeley. We worked hard to win all our games in bracket play to finish as Silver Bracket Champions! This strong start has set the tone for an exciting season ahead, and we can’t wait to continue playing in upcoming games and tournaments during the Winter Quarter.
