Topics include medicare, access cards, parking permits, alumni resources, donating faculty papers, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute membership, and more: https://www.scu.edu/provost/faculty-affairs/compensation-support/retirement/timeline/ Book Groups OLLI Reads SIG: Members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute are invited to participate in the “OLLI Reads” Special Interest Group (SIG). Recent books have included James McBride’s The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store and Zora Neal Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. In September the group will discuss Lynne Olson's biography of Christiane Desroches-Noblecourt, Empress of the Nile: the Daredevil Archaeologist Who Saved Egypt's Ancient Temples from Destruction. In October, the group will discuss Jenny Erpenbeck’s Kairos. Participants must be members of OLLI. OLLI offers one year of free membership for new retirees. Contact OLLI@scu.edu for details. Alumni Book Club: Retired and Retiring Faculty are invited to participate in the SCU Alumni Virtual Book Club, https://www.scu.edu/alumni/learn/bookclub/ Register to join the group for a virtual discussion of “Glory Be” by Danielle Arceneaux (reading period between August 2 and October 4). Longevity Book Club: All are invited to participate in the Longevity Book Club hosted by the Stanford Center on Longevity, featuring Zoom talks by authors of significant new books on aging. Recent talks (recordings are available) include Why We Die by Nobelist Venki Ramakrishnan and Ageless Aging: A Woman’s Guide to Increasing Healthspan, Brainspan, and Lifespan. Forthcoming September 10, 12:00 noon Pacific Time: Kasley Killam, The Art and Science of Connection https://www.longevity-project.com/longevity-book-club TRAVEL AROHE (The Association of Retirement Organizations in Higher Education) TRAVEL INSTITUTE is partnering with Road Scholar to offer travel opportunities for retired and current college faculty and staff. 2025 trips include The Civil Rights Movement (Atlanta, Montgomery, Selma, Birmingham), Quebec City, The Canadian Maritimes, Spain at a Slower Pace (Barcelona, Madrid), and Portugal. https://www.arohe.org/Travel-Institute Alumni Travel Program Retirees are invited to participate in the SCU Alumni Travel Program.
