Dear Colleagues,
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and Santa Clara University have come to a stipulated election agreement with the National Labor Relations Board. Here is what you need to know:
The University agreed to the proposed bargaining unit put forth by the SEIU. As such, the following employees are permitted to vote:
All full-time and regular part-time Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, Quarterly Adjunct Lecturers, Dean's Executive Professors, Professors of Practice, Adjunct Professors, and Academic Year Adjunct Lecturers employed by Santa Clara University at any time during the period from Summer 2021 through Spring 2022.
The following have been excluded from the bargaining unit and cannot vote:
All tenured faculty, members of a religious community and ordained clergy, Program Directors, Department Chairs, Promotion to Senior Lecturer Committees, tenure-track faculty, non-tenure track faculty in the School of Law, non-tenure-track faculty in the Jesuit School of Theology, faculty in Appointments-in Residence appointed under section 3.1.2.2.3, Visiting Faculty appointed under section 3.1.2.3.1, Postdoctoral Fellows appointed under section 3.1.2.3.2, trustees, officers, administrators, managers, confidential employees, office clerical employees, security guards, and supervisors as defined by the National Labor Relations Act.
The election will occur by mail. The National Labor Relations Board will mail ballots on Friday, May 27. Ballots must be returned by the end of the day, Friday, June 17 to be counted. Every vote is confidential.
It is vital that every member of the bargaining unit has their voice heard through their vote. This historic decision will be made by the MAJORITY OF THOSE WHO VOTE, not the majority of the bargaining unit. If 100 people mail in their ballot, and 51 vote for the union, then those 51 will have decided for over 500 people. Make sure your voice counts.
