Dear Campus Community:
In our ongoing efforts to make Santa Clara more equitable, affordable, and accessible for all undergraduates, we are pleased to announce a modification of the undergraduate transfer credit policy to allow matriculated students to apply transfer credit toward major, minor, or core requirements.
What has changed:
- Beginning Summer 2023, students who are matriculated at SCU and have not already earned the maximum allowable number of transfer credits will be able to take courses at another accredited college or university and transfer in up to 10 units toward their major, minor, or core requirements.
- Students will be required to obtain pre-approval from the Registrar or the appropriate academic department before taking a non-SCU course to fill major, minor, or core requirements.
What has not changed:
- Students will still be able to earn elective credit for transfer courses.
- There is still a 10-unit limit to post-matriculation transfer credit.
- There is still a limit on the total number of transfer credits allowed (no more than ½ of the number of units required for the degree).
- There is still a policy that requires some core requirements to be completed at SCU.
Students considering taking courses for transfer to Santa Clara should discuss their options with their academic advisor during their Mandatory Advising appointment this Spring.
If students identify courses they wish to take for transfer to SCU, they must follow instructions listed in the Undergraduate Post-Matriculation Transfer Credit Process document linked under the Resources for Students section on the Registrar’s webpage to obtain pre-approval.
NOTE: The link to the form to request approval for transfer credit will be available on the Registrar’s website on May 15.
We are excited to provide more support for students’ academic progress.
Sincerely,
Katie Heintz
