Dear SCU Campus Community,
As the spring quarter begins, we are writing to let you know that Santa Clara is revising the University’s COVID-19 vaccination requirements for undergraduate and graduate students.
Effective April 2, 2024, the University’s COVID-19 vaccination policy strongly recommends that all undergraduate and graduate students be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as vaccinations and boosters are safe, effective tools that significantly minimize the chances of serious illness, hospitalization, and death.
The decision to revise the existing vaccination requirement was made after consulting with the Faculty, Staff, and Student University Policy Committees. It is designed to ensure that Santa Clara University is in alignment with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department and California Department of Public Health protocols.
As we move forward, Santa Clara is committed to ensuring a healthy and safe campus environment. As a reminder, the following resources and policies remain in place:
- Flexible Teaching: Faculty may design their courses to deliver as much as 30% of the course content online or in a hybrid format in order to address any unforeseen circumstances.
- Mask Requirements: Faculty members have the right to require the use of masks in classrooms, and students are expected to adhere to masking guidelines set forth by their faculty. Failure to comply with a faculty members’ mask requirement will be seen as a violation of the Student Conduct Code. Masks will continue to be provided in classrooms.
- Modified Duties: Faculty members with a documented medical condition can apply for modified duties per Section 3.6.3.4 of the Faculty Handbook.
- Testing: Rapid antigen tests are available from the Test Forms and More! vending machine in the Learning Commons and at the front desk at the Jesuit School of Theology.
Finally, please know that the University will continue to monitor conditions on campus and revise protocols as needed.
Sincerely,
Ed Ryan and Kate Morris
