Dear Colleagues:
We are excited to celebrate the class of 2023 with a return to traditional commencement ceremonies this year. The communication below provides information on faculty participation in commencement ceremonies for quarter-based programs. Semester-based programs at the Jesuit School of Theology and the School of Law will have separate commencement ceremonies on May 20, 2023.
As previously announced, the University will host four traditional commencement ceremonies on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17 for graduates in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Leavey School of Business, the School of Education and Counseling Psychology, and the School of Engineering in Stevens Stadium. These celebrations will feature a variety of speakers, along with the calling of each graduate’s name. All faculty are invited to participate in these ceremonies.
Commencement Ceremony Schedules - Quarter-based Programs
Faculty check-in times will be approximately 45 minutes before the start of each ceremony. Specific details will be provided at a later date.

Faculty Reception - Undergraduate Commencement
The Provost’s Office will launch a new tradition as part of the Undergraduate Commencement activities. Immediately following the Undergraduate Ceremony, faculty are invited to a reception with students and their families on the St. Ignatius and Daly Science Lawns. Specific areas will be designated for each College or School so that you can easily connect with your students. Light refreshments will be served.
RSVP and Regalia Request
Faculty who participate in the undergraduate or graduate commencement ceremonies will process into the stadium and sit on stage during the ceremony. Therefore, it is essential that we have an accurate count of who will participate in each ceremony so that we ensure enough chairs are available. Faculty are required to wear academic attire (regalia) in order to participate. If you do not own your own regalia, the Provost’s Office will rent academic attire for you to use for the event at no charge to you.
Please use this form to RSVP to participate in one or more commencement ceremonies and to indicate if you need regalia rented for you no later than Monday, April 24. If your plans for participation change, please contact provost@scu.edu so that we can update our seating plan.
For more information on the various commencement ceremonies and related celebrations, visit the Commencement webpage.
We hope you will join us to celebrate with the class of 2023 and their families.
Regards,
Kate Morris and Ed Ryan
