Dear Campus Community,
It was a pleasure to be with many of you during Tuesday’s State of the University address. I enjoyed sharing our progress toward becoming THE leading Jesuit university, in service of global society and the global church. I also spoke about Santa Clara’s important role as a place of welcome and inclusion at a time when many of the values and principles that define our work as a Jesuit, Catholic university are being forsaken by national and world leaders.
For those who were unable to attend the State of the University, I invite you to watch the video. We have much progress to celebrate, including plans to launch a new Center for Teaching Excellence, the formation of a new Global Reach Working Group, and work toward a new interdisciplinary center of distinction to advance technology and humanity, to name a few. I was also pleased to share that the Board of Trustees approved a 3.5% merit pool for faculty and staff.
In addition, we have prepared for our community answers to a set of Frequently Asked Questions regarding the current presidential administration’s policies, executive orders, and interpretations of existing law that have generated deep concern among many on our campus.
What do we do in these challenging times? How do we maintain hope and optimism? It is through our work as a community to purposefully live our Jesuit, Catholic values and our work as individuals to engage in everyday actions of compassion and love for others.
With warm regards,

Julie Sullivan
President
