Kephas Pope - Rest in Peace
Dear Members of the University Community,
I am very sorry to share the sad news that one of our students, Kephas Pope ‘27, died this afternoon. At this difficult time, we offer our prayers for Kephas’s parents, Patricia and Nathan, JD ‘22, lecturer in the School of Education and Counseling Psychology, and his sister Grace ‘26. We join them in mourning while also remembering the blessing of Kephas’s life. A sophomore majoring in neuroscience and biochemistry, Kephas was a straight-A student who loved working in the organic chemistry lab.
This difficult news weighs heavily on the campus community and Kephas’s death reminds us of the fragility and sacredness of life. We recall the importance of our shared community and how together we can console one another while also grieving our loss. Let us remember Kephas as the wonderful friend, son and student that he was. We ask that our loving God grant Kephas peace and provide consolation to his family and friends.
A vigil for Kephas will be held when students return from Thanksgiving break.
Notes of condolence can be sent to the Office of Student Life, Benson Memorial Center 205.
We encourage any community members who would like support to avail themselves of services listed below, or to reach out directly to the Office of Student Life for assistance, Benson 205, osl@scu.edu or by submitting a CARE Referral.
Campus Ministry and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff will be available in Campus Ministry, located on the first floor of Benson tonight from 5-7pm for students who would like to speak with someone tonight. For students who live on campus, please know that your Resident Director, Faculty Director, and Spirituality Facilitators are available to offer support and assistance.
Please keep Kephas and his family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.
In sympathy,
Julie Sullivan
