Dear Colleagues,
I would like to give a brief update of progress made on the Fiscal Review Process since the first Open Forum and second Open Forum hosted by Howard Teibel on November 10th. I am pleased that all positions for the Project Steering Committee and the seven Working Groups have been filled by members of the faculty and staff, representing a broad cross-section of the University. Members of the Steering Committee and each Working Group are listed below. I am grateful to each of them for accepting my invitation to serve Santa Clara through this process.
Steering Committee members and Working Group members were nominated by members of the University community. Steering Committee members were recommended by the University Coordinating Committee, and Working Group members were recommended by the Planning Action Council. The members selected bring both functional knowledge of each focus area and also a broad range of backgrounds to encourage novel and creative thinking.
Each of the seven Working Groups will examine a different aspect of the University and generate sustainable ideas on how to help us best live up to our mission and dedication to excellence with efficiency and effectiveness. The Working Groups, each under the guidance of the team lead, will then submit ideas to the Steering Committee for evaluation.
The Steering Committee is headed by two Co-Chairs: Professor Thomas Plante of the Psychology Department, and Dean Lisa Kloppenberg of the Law School. The Project Steering Committee will receive ideas generated by each Working Group, evaluate them, and make recommendations to administrative bodies in accordance with our collaborative governance practices.
As this project continues, you will receive periodic updates via the Co-Chairs, as well as a forthcoming website that will also contain information about the project and ways to ask questions or submit ideas. I am thankful that so many members of the University community have taken interest in this process. It will be most effective in creating sustainable, lasting progress for Santa Clara because of our extensive participation and sharing of ideas.
Thank you for your interest in being an integral part of this project to strengthen Santa Clara University for the future.
Sincerely,
Michael E. Engh, S.J. President
