Dear Members of the University Community,
On November 15, Mark Ardema, Professor Emeritus in Mechanical Engineering, died at the age of 75. We join with the Ardema family in mourning their loss while we also remember the gift of Dr. Ardema's life.
Dr. Ardema came to Santa Clara University from NASA Ames in 1986 as chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department and served in that role until 1998. He returned to the classroom full-time, where he was known as both a popular and demanding teacher. He taught graduate and undergraduate courses in dynamics and control theory. Working with mechanical engineer Bill Adams '37, Dr. Ardema was instrumental in acquiring ASME historic landmark status for the work of SCU faculty member John J. Montgomery and his historic glider.
