Dear Santa Clara University Community, Welcome to the Week 3 edition of the Prepared SCU Weekly Roundup. In this short Friday digest, we share key information related to SCU’s response to COVID-19. COVID-19 Dashboard UpdateThis past week, the University had a 7-day test positivity rate of less than 0.1%, lower than the 1.1% positivity rate in Santa Clara County and 2.5% in California. Track our progress on our COVID-19 Dashboard. Remember that off-campus students are highly encouraged to test regularly (mandatory for on-campus residents and all those with approved vaccine exemptions). Grand Reunion and Class of 2020 Commencement Health ProtocolsPlease note that to keep everyone safe, all Commencement and Grand Reunion attendees coming to campus starting this Friday and running through the weekend must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or provide a negative test result taken within 72 hours of their arrival on campus. Fully vaccinated is defined as at least two weeks after your second dose in a 2-dose series, such as Pfizer or Moderna, or after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson. All vaccinations will be accepted if listed under the WHO approved vaccine. Children under the age of 2 do not require vaccination or proof of a negative test. No exemptions will be accepted regarding proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to participate or attend any Commencement or Grand Reunion events. Stay Safe this Flu and Cold SeasonAccording to the Centers for Disease Control, the single best way to reduce the risk of seasonal flu and its potentially serious complications is to get vaccinated each year. But good health habits like avoiding people who are sick, covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like flu. If you have a cold, please stay home, get a COVID-19 test, get your results and wait for symptoms to subside before returning to work and classes. Students, reach out to your professors to alert them if you are sick and need to stay home. Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe during this flu and cold season. Update on Bay Area Face Covering Health OrdersIndoor face covering requirements in Santa Clara County have not changed. Santa Clara County is one of eight counties in the Bay Area that have reached a consensus on criteria to eventually lift health orders requiring masks, and to allow organizations to set requirements independently. SCU will continue to monitor County mask requirements and we will determine what modifications we might make over time. For now, there are no changes to our indoor mask policy.
