Dear Santa Clara University Community,
Welcome to the Week 6 edition of the Prepared SCU Weekly Roundup. In this short Friday digest, we share key information related to SCU’s response to COVID-19.
Reminder on Indoor Face Coverings
We want to remind everyone that it is critical to continue to wear masks indoors (yes, even Benson Center) when not actively eating or drinking. SCU can face serious fines from the County if we are not in compliance with the mask mandate. Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe.
Is it a cold? Flu? COVID-19?
Do your part and stop the spread! Students, faculty and staff displaying symptoms consistent with cold, flu, or possibly COVID-19 should not come to campus to work or attend class.
Testing Reminder
As mentioned last week, the majority of classes will meet in person after Thanksgiving break.
ALL on-campus residents will still need to test during the final two weeks of the term to protect our community. Off-campus and symptomatic students are strongly encouraged to test weekly, especially in light of travel during this flu and cold season.
Last Week’s Testing Update
Over the past seven days, our test positivity rate remains less than 0.1%. However, there were also a large number of failed tests. We've traced this to an error by our courier. Samples that don't make it to the lab within a certain window are automatically rejected by the lab, which shows up as a "failed" sample. We apologize for this failure in our system, and we've put in place processes to make sure it won't happen again. View our latest COVID-19 Dashboard.
On-Campus Testing Compliance
As part of their housing contract, on-campus residents, both graduate and undergraduate, agreed to regular testing and those who have missed more than two weekly tests will have a hold on their record and will not be able to register for winter quarter classes. Notifications went out earlier this week to those not in compliance. Again, all residence hall students, regardless of vaccination status, are required to test each week, as are other students with approved exemptions.
Thank you Broncos for keeping our community safe! As always, please email us at covid19@scu.edu if you have any questions.
Stay safe and well,
SCU COVID-19 Operations Team
